Humble Brags and Publishing Achievements

Okay, so we’re coming up on Thanksgiving...

…and even though I don’t really celebrate, I feel like it’s a good time to take pause and reflect on the first three months of my debut novel’s release. We are officially through the first quarter, and I have to say, I am truly stunned at how much we (yes, we!) have accomplished.

Honestly, book publishing is so gruelling, which is why I feel credit needs to be shared here. I busted my ass to write, edit, market, and push this book down people’s throats, but I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this with the support of my publisher, The Parliament House Press, my agent, Emmy Higdon, my editor, Malorie Nilson, and the many beta readers who helped me along the way. And of course, let’s not forget the readers—those amazing people who took a chance on this book when it came out of nowhere, from no one in particular.

And all this during 2020. It’s been a rough year to say the least, but I’ve honestly accomplished a lot that I’m proud of. The first sign that I was headed in the right direction was that Publisher’s Weekly decided to review my book and actually liked it! The second was that my book, through the sheer power of a BookBub feature, skyrocketed to Amazon bestseller status in two of three categories, and topped the Kobo charts for nearly a week!

Then, I got an email that my book was the winner for the Fiction: Fantasy category at the Best Book Awards, sponsored by American Book Fest! So, yeah, that’s kind of wild!

All in all, it’s been a truly wild first quarter for my book baby, and honestly, I’m just getting started. I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me. I can’t say I ever had any aspirations to be a best-seller of any kind; I really just wanted to find “my people”–readers who appreciate my work and find a place for it in their hearts. I think, without question, I’ve managed that, and I honestly couldn’t be happier!

Thank you so much, everyone! My heart is overflowing, and I can’t wait to take the next step of my publishing journey with you all in tow!
